Mario Kart 8 continues the tradition of having new Tracks as well as retro tracks from previous Mario Kart games in the series. Mario Kart 8 features 32 tracks in all, 16 new and 16 returning.
Please be civil and do not use derogatory terms. No clickbait, vague, or misleading post titles.Post titles should convey the content of your post quickly and effectively. Last weekend I made a survey in an attempt to find the best and the worst of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe racing tracks.
I posted this survey in various places, but it wasn’t until I posted it to the NintendoSwitch Subreddit, that responses really toke off.In under 48 hours I got over 1500 responses thanks to Reddit, so obviously I felt the obligation to share the results! The basic premise was, to rate each track, as played on a 150cc, using the scale seen below:-3 I hate this track-2 Dislike this track-1 Mildly annoyed with this track0 Neutral - I neither like nor dislike this track+1 It's an alright track+2 I enjoy this track+3 I love this trackI closed the poll with 1763 responses. Most interesting results seen below.Keep in mind that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been positively reviewed and received by both critics and players. Therefore it was to be expected we would see a higher positive response to tracks over all.TOP 10 TRACKS:POINTS1. Mount Wario37702. Big Blue33373. Mute City31684. Hyrule Circuit30055.
Rainbow Road (N64)27476. Animal Crossing27227. Risk of rain 2 rex. Sunshine Airport27158. Toad Harbor25349.
Excitebike Arena2397Pretty Straight Forward - And I bet Most people aren’t too surprised. Notice the top tracks are the tracks with the least indifferent votes. So not only are they good, almost everyone agrees. TOP 3 CUPS:POINTS1. Egg Cup95692. Star Cup92393. Flower Cup8038Interesting to know Star Cup would have beaten Egg Cup, if it wasn’t because of Dolphin Shoals, being rated at 45th of 48 tracks.
LEAST LOVED TRACK(s):Dry Dry Desert (NGC)Bone Dry DunesCheese Land (GBA)Desert levels are the only tracks with more dislikes than likes and therefore the only tracks with minus points. Dolphin Shoals. Grumble Volcano and Toad’s Turnpike got away with just low positive scores. MOST INDIFFERENTDonut Plains 3Interestingly Dry Dry Desert is in the top 3 in this vote. So many people are simply indifferent to it, rather than disliking it.
MOST CONTROVERSIALBaby ParkLooking at +3 - it is rated at number 7. Looking at -3 it is rated at number 2.
Here it is sitting next to Cheese Land and Dry Dry Desert in dislikes. Yet it is found just as loved as the above TOP 10 tracks.Interestingly in comparison Excite Bike Arena be on track with the almost the same amount of +3 votes, yet none of the -3.
Hey, great work on this!Shaking my head at the continued dislike for Bone-Dry Dunes, though. It's easily one of my favourites among the harder tracks, and I love the visual design of the level.I'm a bit disappointed to see Thwomp Ruins drop so far over its place in the from a few years ago, too (it placed 3rd out of the original 32 tracks).
That might have something to do with the difference in voting method, though - the Wii U poll got people to rank all 32 tracks in order of preference, whereas this was based on assigning a point value to each track. It seems like the opinions were similar (very few disliked the track, most people liked it but didn't love it) but the method of scoring affects the results a bit. Shy Guy Falls seems to have placed a bit lower for similar reasons. I didn't say it was unusual, and I don't think it was just the result of a different set of voters, although that's obviously a part of it.
Like I said before, this poll used a different method of voting (assigning scores) as opposed to ranking all of the tracks. That different scoring method impacted the results a bit, too (which is not in itself a bad thing; this poll's method just ended up favouring tracks with more passionate fans, whereas the old poll favoured tracks that weren't disliked by anyone).
You can hit orange sparks in most of the turns in Mario Kart 8 with a little practice, but purple sparks almost always means making the most out of the particularly long turn. That means getting a little closer to the edge of the road than you'd normally want to and occasionally pointing your Kart away from the road as you hit the other side of the turn. Smart Steering, the kid-friendly drive assistant Nintendo added for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, really doesn't like it when you do either of those things. As a result, purple sparks are a lot more difficult to pull off with that feature enabled.
