First, sorry for my not so good english.I am a 38 years old TCG player who started playing paper Magic when I was 14 years old. Today family life take me away from live TCG so I started to play digital card games 5 years ago.I played Magic online, and since 18 months i have played exclusivly Hex: Shards of Fate (because It is absolutly all I am looking for in a cards games as a real trading game fan and former magic player: real economy, cards having real value, sallable and tradable, same Magic gameplay, way cheaper than Magic online)Then I discovered Eternal in close beta, but not played a lot (basicly only the campaign) because i didn't want to be wiped. But i knew i would come back at open beta. Why? In a crowded CCG market, Eternal is the only one close to how Magic work with all its complexity. Not quit, I am stil a bit annoyed Eternal simplify some priority check, but hell close enough to make me want to play the game.I am also happy to see, there is a asynch draft mode. Format i prefer in TCG.
I can't stand playing a card games without ressources cards in my deck because ressource cards make the meta less solvable and make deckbuilding deeper (Yes I hate HS, its a lame card game). Same way I think color family and threshold also give the game more complexity. Same way, letting the defender to chose he block is important for me.So yes, because all of that and my background, I will play Eternal as my secondary card game. Why not my main card game? Well, i already put $200 in Hex and get a +$1000 cards collection in it in 18 months. So i am absolutly not ready to give up my invesment and that value (even if that would make a lot of draft to play in Eternal)So, yeah, Eternal will be absolutly perfect between $5000 cash prize constructed tournament games or draft games in Hex. Instead of waiting 20/30/45 minutes doing nothing i will play quick Eternal game and have fun.To be honnest the most important reason the game won't make me crazy is the economic model of the game. I don't like 'f2p' grinding CCG model mainly invented by Hearsthone.
What i am looking for is real trading card game economy with a card market, I ready to put lots of money in TCG. In CCG not so much. This is too bad for Eternal because the gameplay is really cool and addictive. I will play it often but i also know i won't dive in too deep and I don't think i will put real cash in it, at least not in the near future.Beside to many f2p CCG model out there, the competition is ferocious. Lots of them won't last more than 2 years.
Eternal got a underwhelming steam launch according to the steam charts. So cash investment have to be carefull for the moment. So Eternal is a glimpse of hope in the digital card game market with a solid dev team behind it. I hope the game have lots of year ahead.
The economic model of TCGs vs CCGs can be compared to buying vs renting. When you buy something (a house, appliances, etc.), it requires a bigger upfront investment of a sizeable down payment in addition to the periodic payments whereas renting often requires similar periodic payment plus a deposit that is most likely smaller than a down payment and which will most likely be returned at the end of the rental period. However at the end of the day, buying something means that you are the sole owner of it and are likely able to be able to liquidate it (with some changes in value depending on depreciation, appreciation, or other market forces). Anyone versed in finance or economics will tell you that buying is a better financial decision than renting (barring a huge depreciation rate).Similarly, TCGs like MTG require a higher upfront cost than CCGs. But this isn't sunk cost like CCGs. When you want to be done with the game, the secondary market of TCGs lets you liquidate your collection and get your money back. Of course the value that you get back depends on a lot of external factors (including if the game is still around) but it's a non-zero amount compared to likely getting zero dollar back from quitting a CCG (one can argue you can sell your CCG account but I'm not going to get into that b/c it's likely against the ToS and has such a huge depreciation rate). See:Of course the value that you get back depends on a lot of external factors (including if the game is still around)This phenomenon of the game shutting down isn't something new.
Just look at the myriad of TCGs printed since the release of MTG. Barring some collector's interest, the value of most of those cards are barely more than the cardboard they're printed on.Of course I don't expect any game to last decades (kudos to WotC for keeping it strong for all of these years) but to look at the situation from the worst-case scenario lens seems disingenuous at best. Within normal scope of use of a TCG, it's pretty feasible to buy into something, get some entertainment out of it, and then cash out. I can quickly explain the benefits of TCG over CCG even if it's notquit the place to do so.What you think about TCG compared to CCG is not the reality.Could I get all the 750 cards of 3 sets in 4 with $200 and absolutly no grinding (agains AI or real player) in a CCG?
No absolutly not.I can and I did it in a TCG like Hex. You play tounaments, you win packs by doing well or even not so well (i am just a above average skilled player).
Farming simulator 15 unblocked. Click 'Start'. Click 'Yes' to confirm the uninstallation. How do I uninstall Farming Simulator in Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000?.
You sell the cards you don't need or you have in too many examplaries. You finance your playtime like that to complete your collection. In CCG 'f2p' model you can not do that.
You have to put cash in the game often to get the same result OR you grind your way by playing a lot, lot more than it is neccasarry in HEX (like 5 or 6 times more). Too much for a 'old' player like me with a family and a baby and a profesionnal life.Plus, there is an other thing you can not do in a CCG: sell your cards for ingame currency or real $.Well if i want to quit Hex tomorrow, I can resale my whole collection. Its current value $1 300 (only valuable rare and legendaries).
At a 60% discount, I could earn back $500.A + $300 profit. In a CCG model card game, you put your money without any possibility of return on investment. In my eyes, that make TCG model compared to CCG model much cheaper and less time-consuming.But I respect players who can spend lots of time playing the game to collect their cards for free. I think what puts this CCG so far apart from every other CCG i've ever played is how achievable it is to be competitive without ever spending a single penny. In very minimal off and on gameplay i was able to make a tier 1 deck in like a week? Then with that deck i grinded to gold 1 then started playing draft and had 3 tier 1 decks built in maybe a month of playing.Hearthstone i play off and on for a week and have nothing to show for it. I only enjoyed hearthstone to play occasional drafts. At pax i asked Melissa De Tora how achievable it would be to stay F2P and she said that this game is extremely F2P friendly and that was one of their main objectives. They def met that requirement for me.
Why would a night of four and a half hours of sleep be a record? It records your sleep every night, and some mornings it sends you a notification with your new “sleep record,” which I first interpreted as, well, a milestone. Sort of.)While the Galaxy Watch offers plenty in terms of functions, it lacks a finesse in communication. Time galaxy watch movie. Just kidding.
That is a bit deceptive. The game is not really more f2p than other CCG.First they tuned the reward system with the beta making it la bit less rewarding. And most of all, yes maybe you earn cards more often but the gameplay of the game is build around much more and much powerful cards in the highest rarety. So overall it is the same than other game. It is just a well crafted advertise argument without any reality in it.And i want to add: happily. Because if the game was as much f2p people think it is, the game would be already doomed. They need paid players!.
